Cenni biografici

Il Prof. Antonio D’Amore è responsabile di gruppo di ruolo e direttore del laboratorio di Ingegneria dei Tessuti Cardiovascolari presso la Fondazione Ri.MED; è inoltre Professore Associato presso i Dipartimenti di Chirurgia e Bioingegneria dell’Università di Pittsburgh e Professore Ordinario (Chiara Fama) presso il Dipartimento di Medicina di Precisione dell’Area Medica, Chirurgica e Critica dell’Università di Palermo.

Ha conseguito la laurea magistrale in Ingegneria Meccanica presso l’Università di Palermo nel 2004 e ha proseguito gli studi presso l’Imperial College di Londra, ottenendo una laurea magistrale in Ingegneria Biomedica nel 2007. Nel 2011, il Prof. D’Amore ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in Biomeccanica e Ingegneria dei Tessuti presso un programma congiunto dell’Università di Palermo e dell’Università di Pittsburgh. Dal 2008 è consulente nel settore della bioingegneria sia negli Stati Uniti che in Italia.

Attività Scientifica

È autore di oltre 244 pubblicazioni, tra cui articoli su riviste sottoposte a revisione paritaria, capitoli di libri, abstract e abstract estesi di conferenze internazionali, domande di brevetto, brevetti rilasciati negli Stati Uniti e nell’Unione Europea (13) e software per la modellizzazione di sistemi biologici. Il valore di questa proprietà intellettuale è stato riconosciuto da diverse associazioni professionali, dalla scienza traslazionale e da premi alla carriera come la National Academy of Inventors (membro senior), il premio “Strazzabosco” per giovani ingegneri assegnato sotto il patrocinio del Presidente della Repubblica Italiana e il premio Coulter’s Foundation Translational Research. In qualità di PI o Co-I, ha ottenuto numerosi premi di ricerca, che hanno garantito un finanziamento complessivo di oltre 19,9 milioni di dollari, tra cui: NIH-R01, NIH-STTR, ERC-CoG e ERC-PoC. Il Prof. D’Amore è co-fondatore, membro del consiglio di amministrazione e Chief Technology Officer di “Neoolife”, la prima startup Ri.MED-UPMC che si occupa di tecnologia di ingegneria tissutale per valvole cardiache.
