Biographical Notes
Born in Syracuse, Italy, in 1990. After completing the high school diploma in 2009 at the “Lice scientifico Galileo Galilei” in Modica, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology in 2013 from the University of Parma. In 2015, he completed a Master’s degree in Medical Biotechnology and Nanobiotechnology at the University of Trieste. In 2016, he completed an internship at the BioTis biomaterials and tissue engineering lab in Bordeaux, France, working on the development of biomaterials for bone, vascular, and nerve tissue. At the end of 2016, he moved to Compiègne, France, where he received a three-year PhD fellowship in Engineering Sciences at the Université de Technologie de Compiègne, completing a dissertation titled “Preclinical studies on an extracorporeal bioartificial liver.”
From October to December 2020, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at TissueGraft in Novara, focusing on research and development of biopolymer-based medical devices. In February and March 2021, he worked as a biotechnologist at the Istituto Zooprofilattico della Sicilia in Ragusa, conducting quality-control activities in the food supply chain and diagnostic testing for zoonotic diseases. Since April 2021, he has been a postdoctoral researcher at Fondazione Ri.MED in the Regenerative Medicine team, contributing to a research program focused on developing bioartificial bile ducts.
Scientific Activity
His scientific work focuses primarily on the use of biomaterials for organ regeneration. His expertise ranges from two- and three-dimensional cell cultures in various types of bioreactors to the study of cell–biomaterial interactions, using molecular biology, microscopy, and bioengineering approaches.
