Researchers who are eligible for a European or International PostDoc fellowship or for an independent research project are welcome to choose Fondazione Ri.MED as their host institution. Ri.MED is committed to promote, support and lead biomedical and biotechnological research excellence. We attract young talents from all over the world who have the potential to conducting high-quality, innovative, and ambitious research.

Who we are

Fondazione Ri.MED, based in Palermo (Sicily), was established in 2006 with an international partnership between the Italian Government, the Region of Sicily, the Italian National Research Council (CNR), the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Its mission is to translate biotechnology and biomedical research into improved therapies for patients. Ri.MED main commitments include carrying out scientific research projects, training highly qualified staff, public engagement and organizing scientific communication events.

Research topics

Your research topic shall fit within the broad scope of the Foundation’s research areas, and be performed in collaboration with a Ri.MED scientific supervisor.

Our research areas include:

  • regenerative medicine and immunotherapy, aimed at developing advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMP);
  • drug discovery, directed to the identification novel therapeutic agents and target validation;
  • bioengineering and tissue engineering, focused on the development and translation of innovative therapeutic treatments based on the application of engineering and regenerative approaches.

How do we support potential applicants?

Before the proposal submission:

  • high-quality scientific support for drawing up successful project proposals,
  • technical support for solving possible doubts as regard administrative, scientific and financial aspects, arising during the project drawing up;
  • dedicated support for the budget items identification and financial quantifications;
  • technical support for submitting the project proposals through the online systems indicated by the funding agency concerned;
  • preparation and setting of Non-Disclosure Agreements (and other related documents) to protect background Intellectual Properties, know-how and knowledges.

After the award of the Fellowship/grant:

  • scientific supervision from high-qualified researchers working in Ri.MED;
  • technical support for grant agreement preparation and project overall management;
  • qualified support to incoming researchers and their families, moving to Palermo from abroad;
  • availability of communication qualified staff to achieve dissemination, communication and exploitation scopes;
  • following generation of any Foreground Intellectual Property, specialized support to protect new knowledge generated by the project, including preparation, filing and prosecution of patent application.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) – PostDoctoralFellowship
The objective of Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA – PF) is to support researchers’ careers and foster excellence in research. The MSCA-PF action targets researchers holding a PhD who wish to carry out their research activities abroad, acquire new skills and develop their career. The key features of MSCA are intersectoral, interdisciplinary and international mobility of researchers.

Career Development Award (The Giovanni Armenise Harvard Foundation)

The Career Development Award is a prestigious scheme for young researchers outside of Italy who wish to move and become part of the community of researchers in Italy, with a minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral research experience in basic biological sciences (including at least two years abroad) and no more than 10 years from having received a PhD.
