Cenni biografici

Dr. Andrea Claudio Li Greci received his master’s degree in “Biotechnologies for Industry and Scientific Research” in 2016, at the University of Palermo. He graduated with full grade and honor, conducting a year thesis internship at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz (Basel, Switzerland), with a thesis entitled “Investigation of the Neuropeptides Substance P and Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide in Dogs”. In 2016, he started a PhD in a cancer epigenetics lab at the Université libre de Bruxelles (Brussels, Belgium), funded by a Belgian prestigious scholarship from Télévie foundation, and by Rose et Jean Hoguet foundation. In 2023, he completed his PhD studies, with a thesis entitled “When epigenetics meets epitranscriptomics: a mechanistic study”. Since September 2023, he is part of the Advanced Data Analysis group of the Ri.MED Foundation.

Attività Scientifica

Dr. Andrea Claudio Li Greci has started his scientific activity focusing on molecular microbiology, during his bachelor’s degree at the University of Palermo. With this research, he worked on the model microorganism Streptomyces coelicolor for a better understanding of the expression regulation of genes involved in tryptophan biosynthesis, and of the role of an unknown ORF. During his master thesis, he conducted a research focused on the development of diagnostic tools for the detection of a small peptide in plasma, involved in inflammation and pain. With his PhD activity, he focused on the epigenetics and “epitranscriptomics” fields, by unravelling the molecular and biological functions of recently discovered mRNA chemical modifications, and their potential crosstalk with “classic” epigenetic modifications on the chromatin. In Ri.MED Foundation, he is involved in the development of RNA-based therapeutic strategies for the treatment of disorders linked with aging.
