Biographical notes

Elisa Lanzalaco is a PhD Student in “Chemical, Environmental, Biomedical, Hydraulic and Materials Engineering” at the University of Palermo in collaboration with Ri.MED Foundation and she is working on BIOMITRAL Project based on European Reasearch Council (ERC) Grant. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering (curriculum Biomaterials) and a Master’s degree in Biomechanics and Medical Devices, both earned at the University of Palermo.

She is carrying out her PhD in Cardiac Tissue Engineering dealing with modeling and simulating a new tissue engineering mitral valve. During her master’s degree, she took part remotely in a project promoted by Camplus and the Institute Italian of Technology (IIT) of Genova to model a prosthetic robotic leg using SolidEdge and Simulink.

Attività Scientifica

Elisa’s project aims to model a new tissue engineering mitral valve and evaluate the complex valve system including the subvalvular apparatus. In order to achieve this purpose, she will validate her studies in silico, through numerical analysis, and in vitro using a pulse duplicator. Her skills include: numerical simulation (Abaqus, ANSYS) modeling (SOLIDWORKS, SolidEdge), mechanical testing (uniaxial test, biaxial test), robotics (Simulink).
