Sviluppo di immunosensori elettrochimici nanostrutturati per il monitoraggio di malattie infiammatorie croniche delle vie aeree
Abstract
The project focuses on the development of nanostructured electrochemical sensors for the detection of biomarkers of oxidative stress and inflammation, with applications in both biomedical research and clinical diagnostics.
This multidisciplinary initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Department of Engineering of the University of Palermo and the Institute of Translational Pharmacology of the National Research Council (IFT-CNR). Our team contributes expertise in biochemistry and cell biology, providing well-established experimental models of inflammatory diseases for sensor development, optimization, and performance evaluation. In addition, we support sensor validation through the optimization of biochemical assays, offering complementary analytical methods for the accurate quantification of target analytes.
Our current research is focused on the development of electrochemical immunosensors for the quantification of alarmins associated with airway inflammation in non-invasive biological samples, including exhaled breath condensate, saliva, and nasal lavage fluid.
Working closely with engineers and clinical partners, our ultimate goal is to develop innovative, robust, reliable, and miniaturized sensing platforms capable of real-time monitoring of specific biomarkers of oxidative stress and inflammation in easily accessible biological fluids. These technologies have the potential to improve disease diagnosis, monitoring, and personalized patient management while providing valuable tools for biomedical research.
