Description:

The in vivo Preclinical Research Group provides support to researchers for translational preclinical research activities on small animals (rodents and lagomorphs) and large animals (pigs and sheep). Ensuring control and support of scientific activity in compliance with the 3Rs principle and current legislation (Legislative Decree 26/2014 e Directive 2010/63/EU).

AIMS

  • Well-being of Laboratory animals
  • Drafting of the protocol
  • Standardization of animal model
  • 3Rs Application (Reduction, Replacement and Refinement)
  • Theoretical and practical training of staff and researchers on various technical -experimental activities in accordance with the Ministerial Decree n°134 of August 5, 2021 and the Directorial Decree of March 18, 2022.

FOCUS

  • Test surgical, pharmacological, metabolic, gene and immunological therapies on animal models that mimic terminal organ failure
  • Safety and efficacy of scaffold
  • In vivo Proof-of-concept
  • Training for MD and DVM

EXPERTISE AND RESOURCES

  • Support to researchers for Health Ministerial authorization, Legislative Decree 26/14 (projects, training) and care and maintenance of documentation concerning research projects (Ministerial Authorization, Integrations and Retrospective Evaluations).
  • Assistance in performing experimental procedures: 1) surgical and anesthesiological procedures; 2) pharmacological treatments
  • Relationship with competent authorities involved in preclinical in vivo research (ASP, Ministry, ISS)
  • Health control and drafting of policies that allow the maintenance of humanazed strains
  • Staff training
  • Animal cells, tissues and organs banking for ex vivo research

Team

The team consists of a Veterinary Doctor Expert in Laboratory Animal Medicine and Science  and an Animal Care .
