Cenni biografici

Born in Palermo in 2000, I have always had a strong passion for constructions and
problem-solving. These inclinations found natural expression in the Biomedical
Engineering program undertaken at the University of Palermo, with the goal of putting
my skills at the service of people’s well-being.
During my studies, completed in October 2025, I had the opportunity to explore various
fields of biomedical research: from the study of physiological electrical signals during
my bachelor’s degree, to the development of electrochemical sensors during my
master’s. I dedicated my thesis to this topic, focusing on the creation of an
electrochemical device for measuring carbon dioxide in blood, carried out in
collaboration with LivaNova. At their headquarters in Mirandola, Emilia-Romagna, I also
had the opportunity to complete a curricular internship in their research and
development laboratories.
This extremely formative experience strengthened my passion for the world of
research, making a PhD the natural continuation of my journey. I began my PhD project
in November 2025 and I am still enthusiastically continuing my research work.

Attività Scientifica

My current PhD project concerns the development and characterization of an
electrochemical immunosensor for the quantification of certain proteins, to be used as
biomarkers to monitor the progression and severity of chronic inflammatory pulmonary
diseases.
