Cenni biografici
Alessia obtained her Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering (specialisation in ‘Biomechanical and Medical Devices’) from the University of Palermo, Italy, in 2022. Her thesis, entitled ‘Automatic Segmentation of Aortic Wall in Ultrasound and Computed Tomography Images with Deep Learning Methods’, was carried out in collaboration with École des Mines de Saint-Étienne, France.
In 2026, she completed her PhD in Information and Communication Technologies at the University of Palermo, Italy. Her research project, conducted in collaboration with Mozarc Medical, Italy, and ETSE – Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria, Spain, focused on the development of artificial intelligence methodologies for haemodialysis, with applications in detecting equipment malfunctions and analysing patients’ clinical and therapeutic parameters.
In the same year, she has joined the Bioengineering and Medical Devices Group at the Ri.MED Foundation as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Bioengineering Informatics.
Attività Scientifica
Alessia has gained a rich experience in the development and application of artificial intelligence methodologies for biomedical data analysis, with a particular focus on clinical decision support systems, predictive modelling, and the interpretation of data generated by medical devices.
Her current research activity is focused on the development of artificial intelligence–based tools for the personalised assessment of ischaemic risk in patients with atrial fibrillation.
