Abstract: The project originates from the reflection that the waste water of the Olive Oil Production Chain represents an ecological problem of considerable impact, especially in the Mediterranean regions, considering their considerable polluting power, the concentration of all production activities in a short time span and the high-water consumption implemented in the washing processes. The main chemical components responsible for the polluting action are also molecules of great interest for their potential application in health.
In this context, PROGEMA, proposes to implement a process innovation on the vegetation waters of the Olive Oil Production Chain, for the extraction and relocation of pharmacologically active organic compounds, as well as the abatement of their polluting power. The main expected result is the construction of two integrated, innovative and sustainable prototype plants: the first one will exploit high-performance and compact technologies, such as extraction with subcritical water and purification with supercritical and / or photo-Fenton water; the other one will exploit technologies environmentally more sustainable, such as extraction with microalgae and purification with solar photocatalysis.
