EMBO Workshop – When predictions meet experiments: the next challenges in structural biology

Palermo, 9-12 September 2025 – Palazzo Branciforte

The 2025 EMBO workshop edition will be journey at the interface of computational predictions and experimental structure determination. While the past years have witnessed remarkable advancements, particularly with AI-driven approaches such as AlphaFold and RosettaFold, many challenges remain in fully understanding macromolecular structures, their dynamics, and functional mechanisms. This EMBO Workshop will explore key open questions in the field, including the structure and behavior of intrinsically disordered proteins, multi-domain systems, large molecular machines, and RNA molecules, with a special focus on the integration of  machine learning and AI predictions with experimental techniques.

The Workshop will consist of lectures by leading computer scientists and computational and experimental structural biologists. This multi-disciplinary context aims to foster discussions, inspire new collaborations, and drive forward the development of innovative methodologies, thus bridging the remaining gaps and pushing the boundaries of Structural Biology toward a more comprehensive understanding of the molecular world.
