Palermo Between Identity, Memory, and New Perspectives

28 November 2025

The meeting “Per pensare il futuro” (“Thinking the Future”), organized on 28 November by the Fondazione Salvare Palermo to celebrate its 40th anniversary, offered the city of Palermo an opportunity to look at itself in the mirror.

The discussion was led by the architect Giuseppe Scuderi, who posed a question to participants that opened up new perspectives and reflections: “How many Palermos are there?” It is not a trivial question, because Palermo has always been many cities at once: sea and countryside, commerce and administration, splendor and poverty, knowledge and oblivion. The conversation ranged from history to current affairs, from civic engagement to education, and much more.

Within this dialogue of identities and visions, the Ri.MED Foundation—through the contribution of its Secretary General, Emanuele Insinna—shared the vision of a city that believes in scientific research, innovation, and in the power of ideas that shape the future. Recognizing that, as in research, setbacks are necessary steps to better guide the future, and that collaboration is one of the most valuable tools for achieving results.

Our thanks to the Fondazione Salvare Palermo for welcoming us into this dialogue about the city—an opportunity to reflect together on the future!
