6 March 2025

Rome, 6 March 2025 – Promotion of the development of biomedical research and innovation projects: this is the objective of the agreement signed by ENEA Tech e Biomedical and Ri.MED. The agreement is part of a growing focus on technological innovation in the field of biomedicine and biotechnology, with the aim of attracting investment and strengthening the research system and its industrial application in Italy.

The three-year agreement between ENEA Tech e Biomedical and Ri.MED aims to develop the link between basic and pre-clinical scientific research and industry, also through the networking of laboratories and research infrastructures.

“The collaboration with Ri.MED represents an important opportunity to enhance biomedical research in Italy by promoting strategic investments to support innovation in a field crucial for public health and national security, as well as the attraction of foreign capital in the biomedical sector, contributing to the creation of a more solid and dynamic national ecosystem”, the President of the ENEA Tech and Biomedical Foundation, Prof. Giovanni Tria, declared.

“The challenge in life science is to be able to translate rapidly the results of scientific research into clinical applications, so it is necessary to manage the process of technology transfer. The agreement with ENEA Tech and Biomedical offers the opportunity to promote and exploit the application outcomes of research: patent licensing, industrial sponsorship and creation of technological spin-offs. This is a strategic agreement also given the imminent start of many research activities at the Ri.MED Research Center, currently under construction in the province of Palermo”,  Paolo Aquilanti, President and CEO of the Ri.MED Foundation, proudly comments.

The collaboration also includes the establishment of a working group for the evaluation and development of joint initiatives focusing on the integration of scientific research, industrial development and technology transfer, with particular emphasis on the exploitation of research results.

ENEA Tech e Biomedical is a private law foundation supervised by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy and the Ministry of Health and manages the Technology Transfer Fund and the Fund for biomedical research and industrial development, investing in companies operating on the national territory to enhance research, development and industrial conversion of the biomedical sector, and to support technology transfer.

The Ri.MED Foundation, born from the international partnership between the Italian Government, Sicilian Region, CNR, University of Pittsburgh and UPMC, Today has a hundred researchers and more than 30 patents and is preparing for an exceptional phase of growth in view of the opening of the Ri.MED Research Center in Sicily.
