Cenni biografici

Martina Valentino is a PhD student in “Chemical, Environmental, Biomedical, Hydraulic, and Materials Engineering” at the University of Palermo in collaboration with the Ri.MED Foundation. She earned her Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering – Biomedical Informatics Technologies from the University of Palermo. While completing her master’s thesis, she completed a four-month internship at IRCCS ISMETT in Palermo, where she worked on her thesis titled “Classification of brain disorders secondary to end-stage liver failure using signal and image processing techniques applied to functional neuroimaging data.”

Attività Scientifica

Her scientific activity focuses on coupling the experimental Organ-on-Chip model with computational Artificial Intelligence methods to study the permeability of small molecules to the blood-brain barrier. This objective involves, on the one hand, the use of biofabrication techniques, such as electrospinning and laser cutting, to create the experimental model intended for in vitro cell culture, and, on the other, an in-silico analysis pipeline suitable for treating molecular structures.
