Giovanni was born in North Adams, Massachusetts, in 2001. After completing high school at Mount Greylock Regional School in Williamstown, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University in molecular biology with a minor in political science.

During University, Giovanni conducted research for two summers. Summer 2022 was spent studying the spindle assembly checkpoint at the University of Massachusetts Amherst with Dr. Maresca. The following summer and subsequent fourth year of university was spent incorporating unnatural fluorinated amino acids into proteins using orthogonal tRNA synthetase in Dr. Goldberg’s laboratory. Post-grad, from July 2024 – 2025, Giovanni conducted research at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. There, in Dr. In Otto’s laboratory, he mainly worked on studying Staphylococcus aureus toxin transporters, creating mutants utilizing allelic exchange.

Giovanni was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to conduct research at the Fondazione Ri.MED under the mentorship of Dr. Francipane. From October 2025 to June 2026, he worked in her laboratory on a project focused on the development of a biodegradable stent for bile duct repair.
