GENDER EQUALITY PLAN: results, impact, and new perspectives

4 February 2026

“GENDER EQUALITY PLAN: results, impact, and new perspectives”, this was the title of the meeting organized by the Ri.MED Foundation, a valuable opportunity to review the progress made since 2023 towards genuine gender equality in research.

Presented by Marcella Giacomarra, the first three-year period of the Ri.MED GEP closes with a positive balance in terms of awareness: training, knowledge sharing, and planning have helped to initiate a cultural shift. Now, new challenges and opportunities are emerging for the 2026–2028 period!

A special thanks to Flavia La Colla from APRE, who highlighted the gender dimension in Horizon Europe research projects—a strategic EU priority also in FP10; to Fabiana Padroni from FPA – FORUM PA – A DIGITAL360 Company; to Maria Ingrassia for showing, with concrete examples, how gender equality can become an integral part of organizational culture, also thanks to the UNI/PdR 125 certification; and to Sebastiano Carruba, moderator of the event.

The event delivered a clear message: a GEP goes beyond mere regulatory compliance. It is a strategic lever to enhance human capital, improve research quality, and build more inclusive, sustainable, and future-oriented organizations.

A message that is particularly meaningful this week, in anticipation of the upcoming International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February.
